Red Grouse hunting in Scotland is a time honored tradition better known as the "Glorious 12th". Season starts August 12th but the best time to get an affordable rough shooting experience for them is in September. Hunts are done by forming a line and walking through the moors of Heather, flushing Red Grouse and jumping Mountain Hares along the way. This is a truly unique hunt that is extremely difficult to take part in because it is such an extremely popular event that fills up quickly. The hunt starts in the morning with a few walks and a break for lunch. Then return to more hunting until later in the afternoon.
Seasons:
Early to Late September is the best time to gain access to estates with good Red Grouse populations. Hunting for them normally stops at the end of September to maintain high numbers for following seasons.
